How To Blog

Are you thinking about writing a blog? Do you want to share your stories and your passions? Then let’s talk about how you would do this.

There are two main things for you to have and do:

  1. Have a website
  2. Write

This page will be discussing both…and helping you do both by showing you the resources available to you and providing support and assistance when you need it. It’s not that difficult to get your own website up and running and begin sharing your passion!

There are some important considerations for you to get started:

  • You need a website…which means you need a website host. We will be discussing this later but for now I recommend you do some research on WordPress and understand why it may be just what you’re looking for. You can also read more here: 8 Simple Reasons Why You Should Use Only WordPress.
  • You need to decide what you will be blogging about… is it travel, kids/grand kids, quilting, workshop hints, etc. What do you know and what are you passionate about? Write about that!
  • Have help available…as we begin our blogging journey, it’s important that everyone has help, has someone to talk to and ask questions. This is what I needed at the beginning of mine and I didn’t receive any. I know how important help is!

Finally, you need to make sure that what you’re blogging about is important to you and something you are very passionate about.

Assuming you get a website up and running and have your first blog up, you need to maintain this.  You need to ensure that you are able and have the time to continue to “grow your blog”.  You want to build up a readership and will need to ensure that you have stuff for them to read…or you may lose them.  With the millions of websites out there they will move on.  Once you have them coming you want them coming back for more.  Give them what they want, why they came…and they will give you their loyalty and gratitude.

  6. I really like your approach, the baby boomer market is huge and will only grow in the coming several years. If you help them see that blogging could be a way to income, you could very well help a lot of people fair better in the retirement years. Well done.

    • Thanks Stacy. I agree and all my research was showing that this would be an excellent market. I’ve also spoken to other Baby Boomers and they are very curious about learning to blog so hopefully it works out.

  7. Hi ya Rick ..Rollin’ with the Baby Boomers Rockin’ without the chairs…Before 2000 I did not care about the internet, going online, or sending an e-mail..Here it is 13 years later and all those people I thought nerds..well they are still nerds but rich or perhaps I should say “nerds with money” Anyway congrats on a job well done. Keep on rollin’ -Bill

    • Thanks Bill. I didn’t think much of the internet either but kept hearing all these things about it. Thought I could ignore it for a while but…curiosity killed the cat and all that. I’m glad I’m at WA because I find it’s helping me learn about that gosh-darn internet because there is so much to read.

  8. What a great site Rick. You have really put it all together. I really like your style. Just getting started on my page. It is coming along slowly but surely. Keep up the good work you are doing great.

    • Thanks for your kind comments. Glad you’re getting started on your page. There’s so much I want to do but am making myself be patient and follow a plan for my site. Basically, like writing a book…what are the chapters I want to create so it flows. All the best to you.
