Learn How To Create A Successful Online Business

About Me

Picture of Rick

Hi.  My name is Rick Jantz.  I’m a Baby Boomer and I am learning about websites and blogging!  It’s become a passion of mine and now I want to help others learn to do the same.

But First:

My journey started in the summer of 2012.  I became aware of the possibilities of websites through my teenage son and began wondering if this might be something I could do.  (Don’t tell him, he already thinks I’m “internet-illiterate”).

As I began looking into this I did what many people do and started signing up for the first shiny object I saw; namely, make thousands of dollars online.  Keep reading because I want to show you how to avoid doing this.

Who hasn’t wanted to do this and who hasn’t actually thrown money at something thinking that you were going to become rich?  Well, I did and it took me about 4 months to realize that this just wasn’t working for me.  I wanted my own website that gave me complete control and…yes…that is free.

And the fire was lit!

I really wanted to learn how to create websites so I continued my search.

Let me pause and tell you a bit about myself: I’ve been married for the past 19 years and have two great teenagers, a girl and a boy.  My family is everything to me and there’s no place I would rather be than at home.  I’ve been working most of my adult life and must continue to do so in order to provide for my family (if you missed it above, the get-rich-quick plans didn’t work).

I work in health care in Canada and have held positions where I’ve worked with seniors, worked with volunteers, and worked in human resources.  When I look back on these years, I realize that everything I’ve done has been working with people.  Interesting.  So…

...working with people

…wanting to my own website

…what would be better than working with people who also want to create their own online business!!!

Are You Interested in Your Own Website

My hope is that in reading this you won’t do what I did and don’t throw money at bright and shiny internet “opportunities”.  So many of them are scams (at least, in my opinion and I’ve spent some time there).

I hope that in reading this you realize that your path as an online business owner is similar to mine:

  • We know that others are successfully working online
  • We know that we have the ability to do the same
  • We just need the right training and support to be successful as well!

If you would like to take an inside peek at the online school I attend you can read my review here.  It’s FREE and you will find an incredible online community who truly wants to see you succeed.

Know why you want to work online…know where you can learn!

  1. Rick,

The About me page is fine, but for one small detail. You have not introduced yourself to the readers! Nowhere does it say Hi I am Rick Jantz —-

For me a fellow WA advocate and Squidoo Giant lensmaster that says look out he is trying to avoid saying who he is. Otherwise I really like what you are doing here. Good Luck!

    The Dressage Husband

    • Thanks for your suggestion, I have now introduced myself. Sometimes it’s the small things that make a difference and I know the personal touch is something I look for when I’m checking out a site.

  2. Steve is right…now days you really have to add credibility to your site. When someone lands on your site or blog they want to know who, what, and why should I believe in Rick? Does he have what I am looking for? We now know who you are…forge ahead.

    • Yeah, people want to know we’re human and not spammers or scammers. Read your about me page and like how you have it laid out. I didn’t include any pictures with my family…might need to change that.

  3. Fantastic website you have here but I was wondering if you knew of any user discussion forums
that cover the same topics talked about here? I’d really like to be a part of community where I can get comments from other knowledgeable people that share the same interest. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Cheers!

    • Thank you for your comment. There are numerous discussion forums or chat room that do allow you to share and learn with others who have the same interest. I enjoy the Live Chat in Wealthy Affiliate and have gotten most of my questions answered there. I also post specific questions in our Discussions page and get prompt, focused replies that have help immensely. Does this help?

  4. Hi Rick!

I stumbled on your site while doing some research about Blogging for Boomers (your SEO efforts are working). I’ve been thinking of starting a blog and appreciate all of the information and advice you’ve provided here!

    • Hi Deb. Glad it helped. I’ve been receiving great training, how to do keyword research to get organic traffic, learning to write quality posts. It all works and I’m very pleased. Glad you found the information useful.

  5. Hi Rick, not quite in your target group, just browsing for ideas! Am also with WA, really great place to learn! Was on the WAbinar today {11.1.14} I’m fisheagle in WA. All the very best with your site.

  6. Liked your blog Rick. I have tried some of these offers as well. They seem to be all “Hype” and no useful content. Thanks for the useful blog……………….Frank

    • Hype and no content is exactly right, Frank. So many of the scams are just there to make a quick buck without leaving anything of lasting value. And then they’re off to create their next get-rich-quick scheme. Thanks for stopping by.
