Affiliate Marketing for Baby BoomersAffiliate marketing has become one of the biggest things on the internet these days.  And, not to be left out, Baby Boomers are “getting with the program” and starting up their own online business.  In fact, this website is affiliated with Wealthy Affiliate and has been built using the training and resources there.

Are you a Baby Boomer and wondering if this is something you can get involved with?  If you’re not sure then you have come to the right place.  And it’s all about learning the ins and outs of affiliate marketing, which, if you didn’t know, start with creating your own website first and offering valuable information to those looking for it.

If you are interested in learning more then read on.  I will go through some of the steps you need to follow in order to create a successful online business as well as how to become an affiliate.

How Does Affiliate Marketing Work?

First and foremost this post will assume you have a website.  If you don’t or need additional training you can read my post about learning and creating a website.

You primary goal as an affiliate marketer is to provide valuable information and products that your visitors are looking for.  You will need to provide content they are looking for which is based on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) which will tell you the number of searches and the competition of natural sounding search phrases.

As you begin ranking your website (of course, page 1 is ideal) you will find that your traffic is increasing as your site becomes easier to find.  You then need to have related products to offer your visitors.  These are often through affiliate links of one or more programs that you have signed up for and are an associate of.

Should your visitor click through from your site to the business site that you are affiliate with and then they choose to buy, you will get a commission based on that purchase.

NOTE: it is critical that you review the Terms of Service of any affiliate program that you sign up for.  This will tell you what their commission structure is, when and how you get paid, and any cautions they may have about your affiliate site.  This is very important because if you don’t follow these you may suddenly find that you have been severed (banned) from their program.

Is There a Market for Baby Boomers?

Of course there is!  Whether you are buying or selling (through an affiliate program) Baby Boomers are just like any generation and are becoming more and more comfortable with websites, whether to own one and sell or have their favorites that they buy from.  It may be useful to understand this demographic and I offer a few suggestions for marketing to 450 million Baby Boomers.

Boomers are traveling, working on their hobbies, blogging about their families, and doing many other unique and creative things online.  There will always be companies that offer services or products that you can affiliate with and target this generation.  If you’re not sure just type in Baby Boomers + affiliate program and this is what you will see:

As you can see from this screenshot there are over 250,000 hits for this, some paid ads and some from organic searches (which I would recommend you focus on).  It’s also interesting to note that Baby Boomers typically have more disposable income given that their kids have usually moved on and they are often down-sizing.

If you’ve ever wondered if there is a market for Boomers and if there are affiliate programs that allow you to earn money then you need to know that the answer is an unequivocal “yes”!  And if you ever need assistance in getting going I would encourage you to read about the best online school for Baby Boomers creating a website.

Thanks for reading and I would enjoy hearing back from you on this.  Please feel free to leave a relevant comment below.

That sounds Awesome Rick. Thank you for the information. My mother is a baby boomer. I will have to forward this link to her email. She would love to do something like this.

    • Some think us Boomers are not very comfortable being online but I can guarantee that’s changing. And more and more of us are getting into affiliate marketing. Thanks for commenting.

  2. Hi! I write a boomer blog and would like to connect with more boomers online.

    • That’s what I’m trying to do as well, get connected to other Boomers and get some interaction going. Trying to reduce the number of links and promos I do and get to know the people behind the follow.

      • Hi Rick! I am new to WA and want to focus on my boom gen too! I am having questions on choosing niches within that. How can I connect with you on WA?
